Safety and Orientation (Feb)
A Required Course for everyone, Instructors/Volunteers/Students alike.
Service Description
The first step to utilizing the Wood Shop... so that everyone is on the same page regarding rules and expectations. So long as one is signed up for the next available Safety Class... participants may, (in the meantime), take those singular classes where expanded Shop use is not included. There are some singular classes on specific equipment/tools such as Table Saw, Drill Press, Hand Tools, Band Saw, Planner and Jointer... which are considered to be part of Shop Safety. Open Shop times will be posted for those who have completed The Shop Safety and Orientation. To utilize Shop Tools/Equipment, each user must be 'cleared' and authorized to use that particular Tool in order to use it without supervision or assistance. Users of the Shop may TEST OUT on each Tool on scheduled TEST OUT days and demonstrate to Shop Staff that they are qualified to use the tool without supervision. Unless one has substantial history of safely and properly operating and maintaining these Tools, it's recommended that those wanting to Test Out on Tools/Equipment take the Wood Shop classes for those Individual Tools.
